Nonsequential
The idea of non-linear time continues to surface in my work. In looking back over my life, I have pieces of memories, which over time, only become more labored or fragmented. Some may even be "future memories" or precognition (see the Spielberg movie Minority Report). Once I finished this piece, I stood close to it, about a foot away. From that close proximity, I looked around at the images and color fragments, and they struck me in a way almost identical to those fragile memories. They showed up in a seemingly random order, both sparking and challenging my memory. These visual fragments are arranged in a pattern similar to DNA sequencing, further adding to the personalized nature of this artwork.
Not long after finishing this piece, I sat down in front of it after realizing that I had gone without some of my medication for the past few days. In a morning filled with acute anxiety, this object brought me a surprising sense of peace. In a weird way, while creating it, I had no idea it would contain pre-healing properties. Time folding in on itself.
