Looming

Part of my Cereal Box Portal series. I spent a lot of time at the kitchen counter as a child, eating cereal, oatmeal and other self-prepared foods. As I read the backs of countless cereal boxes while eating, I was transported to other places and times, far away from my south Louisiana home town. Growing up in the 70's and 80's, the nightly news that Dad had on the TV every night during dinner (much to the chagrin of Mom) featured endless stories and comparisons of the Cold War. The constant comparisons of America's and Russia's nuclear arsenals kept us all in check with a healthy dose of background anxiety. 17.5x27" collage, oil pastel, and pencil color on double-pack cereal box, unframed.
